US seeks to extradite former Salvadoran colonel to face charges for killings of 5 Jesuit priests

April 08, 2015

The US Department of Justice plans to extradite a former Salvadoran military officer to Spain, where he faces charges for the 1989 murders of five Jesuit priests in El Salvador.

Inocente Orlando Montano Morales, who is currently serving a prison term in the US for immigration fraud, was indicted in Spain in 2011 on a charge that he helped to plan the killing of the Jesuit priests, in one of the most notorious acts of El Salvador’s bloody civil war. The Justice Department will seek to extradite him to Spain to answer those charges.
