Ontario: physicians must provide abortion referrals

The Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons has ruled that doctors must provide patients with abortion referrals, regardless of their moral principles.
The College took action on a 21 to 3 vote, despite strenuous protests from the minority and a plea by the Ontario Medical Association urging respect for physicians’ conscience rights. The College also acknowledged that of 16,000 comments it had received from the public about the proposed policy, most were opposed.
The chairman of the committee that drafted the new policy said that the group “wanted to ensure there was no wiggle room.” He rejected the argument that a referral is a form of cooperation with the abortionist, and dismissed a proposal that doctors might simply list the names of other health-care professionals who would provide referrals. “You cannot kick someone out of your office without providing care,” he insisted.

If a doctor refers a patient to the ISIS for dismemberment of a child he/she will be arrested. If a doctor REFUSES to refer patients pregnant with a child to an abortionist for dismemberment he/she will be arrested. Because I have a conscience I cannot refer any children to ISIS. Because I have a conscience I cannot refer any children to an abortionist. Why is that so difficult for the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons to understand?
