Parents of St. Therese of Lisieux will be canonized in October

Blessed Louis and Zelie Martin, the parents of St. Therese of Lisieux, will be canonized in October.
Cardinal Angelo Amato, the prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, announced that Pope Francis plans to canonize the couple in conjunction with the October meeting of the Synod of Bishops, with will focus on the family.
The Martins were married in 1858. Of their nine children, four died in infancy; the remaining five all entered religious life. One, St. Therese, is now recognized as a Doctor of the Church. Another, Léonie, is a candidate for beatification.
Louis and Zelie Martin were beatified by Pope Benedict XVI in October 2008. The recognition of a miracle attributed to their intercession is still needed to fulfill the normal requirements for canonization. But informed Vatican officials say that formal recognition of a miracle will occur within a few weeks.
