A Philippine prelate has been accused of sedition after calling for the removal of President Benigno Aquino III.
“We are asking him to step down because we think he is not entitled to that position because of what he has done and failed to do,” said Archbishop Ramon Arguelles of Lipa, who is part of the National Transformation Council, an ecumenical effort that opposes Aquino.
Leila de Lima, secretary of the Philippine Department of Justice, said that the government “will not relent in applying the full force of the law against them in order to protect the people and the State from an unconstitutional and illegal power grab,” according to a Philippine media report.
