Secretary of pontifical council transferred to Italian diocese
January 19, 2015
Pope Francis has named Bishop Mario Toso, a Salesian who has served as secretary of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace since 2009, as the new bishop of Faenza-Modigliana, Italy.
The Pope did not appoint a replacement for Bishop Toso, who once served as rector of the Salesian Pontifical University.
The Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, led by Cardinal Peter Turkson, is one of 12 pontifical councils whose number is likely to be reduced in the reform of the Roman Curia. The Pope has convoked a consistory of cardinals to discuss curial reform on February 12 and 13. Vatican insiders expect that the proposals will include the merger of several pontifical councils into new combined offices.
