At interfaith conference, Vatican official blasts 'barbarism' of killings at Jerusalem synagogue

November 19, 2014

Speaking to a conference on inter-religious dialogue just after the news of a terrorist bombing at a synagogue in Jerusalem, the Vatican’s representative said that “no cause, and certainly no religion, can justify such barbarism.”

Father Miguel Ayuso Guixot, the secretary of the Pontifical Council for Inter-Religious Dialogue, told participants at the Vienna conference that such “inhuman acts of violence” must be condemned by all religious leaders. He challenged his colleagues at the King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz International Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue to become “promoters of unity in diversity.”
