Pakistan: Christian arrested for blasphemy, 2 arrested for lynching Christian couple

November 17, 2014

Police in Lahore, Pakistan, have announced the arrest of a Christian man who had been on the run since 2011, when he was accused of blasphemy.

Qaiser Ayub, who had been a computer-science instructor, was accused of blasphemy statements on his blog. He was said to have made insulting references to Muhammad: the same charge that led to a death sentence against Asia Bibi in another celebrated case.

Meanwhile Pakistani authorities also announced the arrest of two men who were reportedly leaders of the mob that burned alive a Christian couple. Earlier more than 40 people had been arrested for allegedly taking part in the lynching.
