Minnesota priest defies archbishop, hosts dissident

November 06, 2014

A Minnesota priest has announced that he hosted a talk by a dissident Irish priest in defiance of a directive from his archbishop.

Father Mike Tegeder encouraged parishioners at St. Francis Cabrini church to attend a lecture by Father Tony Flannery on November, although Archbishop John Nienstedt of St. Paul-Minneapolis had said that the Irish priest should not speak on parish grounds because Father Flannery-- who has been ordered to silence by the Vatican-- "attacks the teaching of the Church."

In his parish bulletin, Father Tegeder reported that he had met with the archbishop and refused to change the venue for the speech. The priest accused his archbishop of making "defamatory" statements about Father Flannery, and said: "Such ignorance saddened me."

Sounds like there's an opening at St. Francis Cabrini church...or, if not, there should be.

The ball would seem to be in your court, Archbishop Nienstedt.
