Pro-life amendments fail in 2 states, pass in Tennessee
November 06, 2014
By a 53%-47% margin, voters in Tennessee have approved a constitutional amendment that was supported by the state’s bishops.
“Nothing in this Constitution secures or protects a right to abortion or requires the funding of an abortion,” the amendment states. “The people retain the right through their elected state representatives and state senators to enact, amend, or repeal statutes regarding abortion, including, but not limited to, circumstances of pregnancy resulting from rape or incest or when necessary to save the life of the mother.”
In Colorado and North Dakota, amendments that recognized the personhood of the unborn child failed by margins of 63%-37% and 64%-36%.
