Pope offers Mass for deceased cardinals, bishops

November 03, 2014

Pope Francis celebrated Mass on November 3 for the repose of the souls of the cardinals and bishops who died during the previous year.

The mystery of the resurrection, foretold in the Second Book of Maccabees, is definitively revealed and accomplished in Jesus Christ, the Pope preached during the Mass, which took place in St. Peter’s Basilica.

“If he is not risen, our faith is empty and groundless,” the Pope continued. “Because because he is risen-- indeed, he is the resurrection-- our faith is full of truth and eternal life.”
