Venezuelan cardinal calls for respectful treatment of political prisoners

Cardinal Jorge Urosa Savino of Caracas has called for respectful treatment of political prisoners in Venezuela, the Fides news service reports.

The cardinal—who has often criticized the authoritarian government under the late Hugo Chavez and his successor, Nicolas Maduro—said that political prisoners should be brought to trial promptly and should be treated properly while imprisoned.
