Helen Hull Hitchcock, founding director of Women for Faith & Family, died in St. Louis on October 20 after a brief illness.
Raised as an Episcopalian, Helen Hitchcock entered the Catholic Church in 1984. She soon established Women for Faith & Family, an organization of women loyal to the teachings of the Church, and became prominent in debates about feminism in the Church. She was also actively involved in liturgical issues, as a founder of Adoremus: the Society for the Renewal of the Sacred Liturgy, and editor of its Adoremus Bulletin. She was a popular lecturer and widely published essayist on Catholic affairs.
Helen Hitchcock was the devoted wife of James Hitchcock, the noted Catholic historian and author, who survives her along with their four daughters.
