Cardinal Kasper expresses regret for remarks on Africans

Cardinal Walter Kasper has expressed regret about controversial remarks on African prelates in a conversation with journalist Edward Pentin, according to Catholic World Report.
Cardinal Kasper had initially denied making any remarks on Africans, but then Pentin published an audio of the conversation.
“If one of my remarks about Africans was perceived as demeaning or insulting, then I am honestly sorry,” the prelate told a German publication. “That was and is not my intention, and not my view at all. No one will deny that Africa’s culture is different from Europe’s in many respects. But I have been in Africa too often not to esteem African culture highly.”
In another interview, however, Cardinal Kasper was more combative, according to Catholic World Report:
Another comment made by Cardinal Kasper in speaking with Kath.net is quite breathtaking: he talked again about a “deliberate dirty trick” to denounce him. “The fact that Catholic media (and unfortunately a cardinal in person) should participate in it, in order to tear down another position morally, is shameful,” Kasper opined. When Kath.net asked as a follow-up question who that cardinal was, Kasper unfortunately gave no answer. The retired curial cardinal announced, however, that “other journalists” are going to take action against such “undignified machinations.”

Cardinal Kasper, more imprudent talk is not going to repair your reputation ruined by your own imprudent talk. You would do much better if you just say your Rosary now.

Kasper is another wolf in sheep's clothing who supports the outlandish hedonistic culture that is now Europe. He should be ashamed for his remarks and work to change the culture that is brewing in Germany and Europe that will destroy it.

Bveritas - Nicely stated! But let's face it, he didn't really want to, nor did he, apologize. Cdl Kasper has no legitimate place to stand and can only do what all persons like him do - he blames the messenger. What concerns me the most is that apparently the Pope has not straightened him out and doesn't seem inclined to, if Cdl Burke is a bellweather.

In a corrupt sort of way, the demented liberal Catholic world view of cultural and moral relativism that Kasper promotes is reflected in the "Western" practice of "iffy" apologies. Cardinal, when you apologize, be a man. Don't take refuge in "if" I did anything wrong.

"The retired curial cardinal announced, however, that 'other journalists' are going to take action against such 'undignified machinations.'” Sounds an awful lot like a threat to me. The cardinal spoke often and said/implied that what he had to say was also the pope's view. Why hasn't the pope said anything? The longer he waits, the more the implication is that he agrees with this "retired" cardinal.

Kasper is right, it was a lowdown dirty trick for the journalist to ask him a question and then stick a microphone in front of him. Journalists do that all the time, and I just hate it when that happens.

Ok, so retired roving Cardinal Kasper can go on a book tour to "tear down a position" and lobby aggressively through the media but how dare another Cardinal speak up to defend that position in the public forum?
