Russian Orthodox leader pays tribute to Putin

October 10, 2014

The head of the Russian Orthodox Church has paid tribute to President Vladimir Putin on his 62nd birthday.

“For decades now, you have been working selflessly and productively in high-ranking posts, including the post of head of state, and your work has already become an integral part of our country’s history,” said Patriarch Kirill of Moscow, according to an Interfax report.

“I would like to express my special appreciation to you for taking care of the spiritual well-being of our people, as well as for your constant attention to the activities of the Russian Orthodox Church,” he added. “The moral foundations of social life continue to grow stronger today.”

garedawg, surely you jest when you say "his newly conquered territories." Putin hasn't conquered any territories. The U.S. is more of a threat to world peace than Putin. Putin has spoken out against the atrocities committed against Christians, which includes Catholic Christians in the Middle East, more than any other leader. Stop listening to FOX Neocon News and read Pat Buchanan for the truth.

I feel very strongly about this issue, as it is in direct contradiction to the teachings of the past few Popes, almost all being notable for holiness. As such, tossing words & terms around arbitrarily annoys me a great deal. Elevating Putin to the level of Constantine would seem to be rather rash. Viewing the world-scene with genocide being committed against our brothers & sisters in the Mid East "in the name of religion" (???) He should know better!

Religion is legal and mandatory in Russian schools today thanks to Putin. It is neither of these in American government schools. God is welcome in Russian schools but scowled at in American government schools. After 10 more years of Obama and Hillary, only Catholic Asia, Catholic Africa, and Russia may be left standing as refuges for Christianity.

A modern Constantine? Well, lets just see how St. Vladimir treats the Catholics, especially those in his newly conquered territories.

As I have said before, Putin may be modern day Constantine, preserving and helping Christianity to grow. I, for one, do not believe the propaganda against him that is the steady drumbeat of the liberal left and the Neocons.
