Child-porn cache found on former nuncio's computer

October 01, 2014

A huge collection of child pornography has reportedly been discovered on the computer used by Jozef Wesolowski, the former apostolic nuncio who has been laicized after being recalled to Rome on child-abuse charges.

Wesolowski, who is now living under house arrest at Vatican as he awaits a criminal trial there, had a collection of thousands of photos and videos of teenage boys in sexual poses, according to a report in the Italian daily Corriere della Sera. Describing the collection as a "gallery of horrors," the Italian newspaper questioned whether the former archbishop had connections with international purveyors of child pornography.

In a related development, a prosecutor in the Dominican Republic-- where Wesolowski was serving as nuncio when evidence of his misconduct came to light-- has called upon the Vatican to allow Wesolowski to face criminal charges in that country. Yeni Berenice Reynoso acknowledged that the Vatican has a right to prosecute the former nuncio, but urged Vatican officials to waive that right so that he could "face Dominican justice for the terrible crimes committed against children and adolescents who live in extreme poverty."

We need to get rid of this "filth" in the church. The Vatican and the Bishops need to clean house and not protect these people anymore. If the Bishops won't do that they need to be removed. How many people have lost their faith because of this sin of our priests?

Still, it would be nice if we keep a proper perspective re this scoundrel. His offences are not any more egregious for having committed them "against adolescents who live in extreme poverty,"just as they would not be less egregious had he been living in the U.S. or Western Europe and accosted and abused well-to-do adolescents living there.

The duo of ancillary behaviors associated with homosexual conduct are addictions to porn and self-abuse.

The main focus of the investigation should be: how did this individual fly under the radar to become a bishop and a papal nuncio, and in a poor nation that suffers from "sex tourism" exploitation? Who proposed him for promotions and why? There could be a few more of his breed high up in hierarchy that need to be vetted out ASAP.
