Theme announced for papal visit to Philippines

“Mercy and compassion” is the theme of Pope Francis’s apostolic journey to the Philippines, which is scheduled to take place from January 15 to 19.
“With the presence of the Pope, the God of mercy and compassion comes close to us,” Bishop Mylo Hubert Vergara, president of the Episcopal Commission for Social Communication, told the Fides news agency. “This is a great blessing for the Church in the Philippines.”
