Dispute over beatification of Archbishop Sheen can be resolved, columnist argues
September 05, 2014
In a column for the National Catholic Register, Father Roger Landry says that the Diocese of Peoria chose to halt the proceedings toward beatification of Archbishop Fulton Sheen: a decision that he regrets.
The controversy over the Sheen cause, Father Landry explains, reflects a long-running dispute between the Diocese of Peoria and the Archdiocese of New York over the disposition of Archbishop Sheen's remains. It should be possible to resolve that dispute by a reasonable compromise, he argues, and the beatification can proceed.

One wonders why the two bishops are engaging in a battle of egos instead of "teaching as Jesus did".

Historical precedent should serve us well here. A portion of his body can be entombed in Peoria and a portion in New York.

Give the current debacle over the St. Patrick's Day Parade in NY, it would appear that Peoria would be a more Catholic place for Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen's final resting place.
