Caritas Turkey financially ‘powerless’ in face of influx of Christian refugees

Catholic World News - August 28, 2014

In a letter to Pope Francis, leaders of Caritas Turkey said that they are financially “powerless” to assist all of the refugees from neighboring Syria and Iraq.

Although “we do not make a distinction of nationality and religion, we cannot remain indifferent to the suffering of Christians,” said the Caritas officials, who expressed hope that the refugees could eventually return to their homes after time spent in Turkey.

The officials concluded their letter by asking Pope Francis to “echo our cry of alarm.”
