Drowned immigrants in Mediterranean outnumber some war casualties, says Vatican paper
Catholic World News - August 26, 2014
L’Osservatore Romano has compared the deaths of immigrants drowned in the Mediterranean sea to the carnage of war.
The Vatican newspaper responded forcefully to news of “the latest massacre”--- in which 18 drowning victims were recovered, and about 200 remain missing, after a boat carrying undocumented immigrants sank off the island of Lampedusa.
“The number of deaths in the Mediterranean by now are more than those of a war,” L’Osservatore Romano said.
