Jewish leader: indifference to slaughter of Christians is 'obscene'

August 20, 2014

Saying that the lack of public response to the slaughter of Iraqi Christians is "obscene," the president of the World Jewish Congress argues: "Good people must join together and stop this revolting wave of violence."

In a New York Times piece, Ronald Lauder points to the common heritage of Jews and Christians. He writes:

Now, sadly, we share a kind of suffering: Christians are dying because of their beliefs, because they are defenseless and because the world is indifferent to their suffering.

An eloquent and moving statement by Mr. Lauder, for which I am grateful.
