African cardinal emphasizes importance of women in Church

August 12, 2014

The leading prelate in Senegal has emphasized the importance of women in the life of the Church.

“The role of women within the Christian community is as undeniable and important as that of a mother at home,” said Cardinal Théodore-Adrien Sarr of Dakar, according to a report from the Catholic Information Service for Africa. “Take your rightful place.”

“The parish community needs the passion, the initiative of women; needs their joy in witnessing to the love of Jesus Christ,” he added. “In the quest to build a community united in Christ the Savior, a community of God’s family, a family of families, we cannot develop without the feminine intuition, without the maternal instincts, without the care of women.”
