New evidence shows effort by Pius XII to protect Jews from Holocaust

A newly discovered document provides clear evidence the Pope Pius XII ordered religious institutions to shelter Jews from the Nazi genocide. Father Peter Gumpel, who has worked for years on the cause of the beatification of Pius XII, unearthed a note in the archives of an Augustinian monastery outside Rome, conveying the Pope's personal directive to shelter Jews and listing 24 people who were given refuge at the monastery.
