Pope Benedict will not visit Holocaust museum where Pius XII is accused
March 06, 2009
Pope Benedict XVI will visit Yad Vashem, the Jerusalem memorial to Holocaust victims, during his May trip to the Holy Land. But the Pontiff will not enter the Yad Vashem museum, according to the Israeli ambassador to the Holy See. (The Vatican has not yet confirmed plans for the papal visit.) The museum at Yad Vashem contains an exhibit charging that Pope Pius XII was culpably silent in the face of the Holocaust. Church officials have protested that charge, and in 2007 the apostolic nuncio refused to participate in a ceremony at the museum.
