Swiss bishops call for greater generosity to Syrian refugees

The Swiss bishops’ conference is urging the nation’s government to be more generous to refugees from the Syrian Civil War.

Bishop Markus Büchel of Sankt Gallen, the conference’s president, called upon the government to increase its humanitarian aid from 30 million Swiss francs ($33.4 million) to 100 million Swiss francs ($111.5 million).

Bishop Büchel also called upon the government to increase the number of Syrian refugees permitted in the country from 500 to 5,000.
