Vatican council promotes 'pause for peace' at World Cup final

The Pontifical Council for Culture is promoting a “Pause for Peace” during the World Cup final on Sunday, July 13.
The initiative calls for a moment of silent prayer for peace, and for the victims of war. Msgr. Melchior Sanchez, undersecretary of the Pontifical Council, observes that in ancient times, athletic competitions were associated with religious rites and also with truces.
