Pope to celebrate Mass in Nazareth, not Haifa
March 03, 2009
Nazareth Mayor Ramez Jeraisi has told the Israeli media that the Vatican has decided to hold the largest papal Mass of his May pilgrimage in Nazareth, rather than in Haifa, Israel’s second largest city (after Tel Aviv). “We are pleased,” the mayor said, “that in the end the Vatican took the correct and proper decision from our point of view, because no one can deny the status of Nazareth, and we will do whatever we can to ensure the visit and the mass will take place as they should, with the utmost success.” The Vatican has not yet confirmed plans for the papal trip.
