Cardinal O’Connor’s grandfather was a rabbi

June 12, 2014

Following up on a recent news story that Cardinal John O’Connor’s mother was born Jewish, researchers have discovered that his grandfather was a rabbi, according to The New York Times.

The cardinal, who served as Archbishop of New York from 1984 to 2000, was known for his warm ties to the Jewish community. His sister says that the cardinal was probably unaware of his own mother's Jewish roots.
