Nigerian bishop backs military action to free kidnapped girls
May 30, 2014
A Nigerian Catholic bishop has indicated his support for military action to free more than 200 girls who have been kidnapped by Boko Haram terrorists, the Vatican Insider reports.
“If the military knows where the kidnapped schoolgirls are, they must go and rescue them immediately,” said Bishop Oliver Dashe Doeme of Maiduguri. Nigerian military leaders have said that they know where the girls are being held, but fear that a raid could endanger the girls. The bishop voiced some skepticism about that report.
The bishop, whose diocese includes the village where the kidnappings occurred, said that “things here are getting worse and worse” because of the terrorist attacks.
