Vatican calls meeting for charities active with Syrian refugees

The Pontifical Council Cor Unum, which handles the charitable acitivites of the Holy See, has called together Catholic relief agencies to discuss responses to the refugee crisis in Syria.

The May 30 meeting will be chaired by Cardinal Robert Sarah, the president of Cor Unum, and will hear from Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican Secretary of State. Some 25 Catholic charitable agencies are expected to participate, discussing their efforts to support the estimated 2 million refugees who have fled to other countries to escape Syria’s civil war, and the additional 6 million people who are displaced within Syria.
