May 28, 2014

A Sudanese woman who faces a death sentence for converting to Christianity has given birth to a baby girl in prison.

Meriam Yehya Ibrahim has been sentenced to death for apostasy from Islam. The Sudanese woman, who says that she was raised as a Christian, had earlier been found guilty of adultery because of her marriage to a Christian man who is now a US citizen. She has been told that she will suffer 100 lashes as punishment for adultery when she recovers from childbirth, and execution by hanging when her baby is weaned.
