Pope Francis makes constant requests to St. Joseph

May 01, 2014

Pope Francis keeps a small wooden statue of St. Joseph at his residence, and routinely writes prayer petitions that he slips beneath the statue, reports Andrea Tornielli of La Stampa.

The statue, about 15 inches long, depicts St. Joseph asleep—as he was when he received messages from heaven. Pope Francis had the statue shipped from his old residence in Buenos Aires soon after his election to the papacy; he had similar images of St. Joseph at each of his previous residences.

As the Pope continues to put slips of paper under the pedestal, containing his prayer requests, “the statuette slowly rises,” Tornielli reports.

Who better to help him care for the Body of Christ? I'm so glad to know this since I pray for his intentions daily and those of Pope Emeritus BXVI. Long live both!
