February 26, 2009

Thousands of Catholics attended today’s funeral of Cardinal Paul Joseph Pham Dinh Tung, who was appointed Archbishop of Hanoi at the age of 74 in 1994, was created a cardinal that same year, and retired at the age of 85 in 2005.

“His death is a huge loss for the Catholic community in Vietnam,” said one priest. “He helped us overcome uncountable difficulties.”
