Kidnapped Syrian nuns released
March 10, 2014
Syrian rebel forces have released 16 women, including 13 Greek Orthodox nuns, kidnapped in the historic Christian town of Ma’loula in December.
In exchange for the nuns’ release, the Syrian government agreed to release 150 female prisoners, the Associated Press reported. The head of Lebanon’s general security agency brokered the deal.
Two Syrian prelates-- one Greek Orthodox, and one Syrian Orthodox-- and a Jesuit priest were also abducted in Syria last year and remain missing.
