Vatican expects budget shortfall, adopts hiring freeze
Catholic World News - February 25, 2014
Expecting a 2014 budget shortfall, the Vatican’s Secretary of State has directed all Vatican offices to begin a hiring and wage freeze.
When employees leave, current workers will be asked to “generously take on” other duties, according to a Catholic News Service report.
Cardinal Pietro Parolin also called for an end to the “habitual recurrence” of working overtime and urged offices to make greater use of volunteers.
