Leading English prelate denounces ‘discourse of fear’ on immigration
February 19, 2014
Archbishop Vincent Nicholas of Westminster has criticized the “discourse of fear” surrounding immigration, the Press Association reported.
Politicians should “appeal to something more normal and more substantial than fear,” the cardinal-designated said at a press conference before departing for Rome. “We really should have a positive appreciation of the contribution that people who come to this country make to our wellbeing and economy. I think the idea that immigrants are a net drain on our economy is false.”
