Religious leaders broker peace accord in South Sudan

Religious leaders in South Sudan have brokered an agreement to stop fighting between the government and the rebel Cobra Faction, the Fides news service reports.

Under the accord, signed on January 30 after negotiations in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the government agrees to release prisoners of the Cobra Faction, while the rebel group promises to remain neutral in the government’s continuing struggle against other rebel forces. The agreement was arranged by the Church Leaders Mediation Initiative.
