Benedict XVI says his theological views match those of Pope Francis, German scholar reports

Catholic World News - December 18, 2013

A German scholar who met recently with Pope-emeritus Benedict XVI said that the retired Pontiff regards his theological views as “very much in the same line with Pope Francis.”

Manfred Lütz said that Benedict XVI shares his successor’s insistence that “the Church must not become worldly and must not be tempted by worldly power,” the Catholic News Agency reports.

Lütz told the Catholic News Agency that he found the retired Pontiff physically frail, but “mentally he was very good.” He said that Benedict XVI continues to serve the Church through his prayer.
