Essayist questions collection of royalties for liturgical texts
February 06, 2009
In a provocative essay for Inside Catholic, Jeffrey Tucker questions a standard practice among Church officials in the English-speaking world: requiring payment for the use of liturgical texts. These texts are the property of the whole Church, and should be available to all, Tucker argues, noting that other faiths work on that premise, making the texts freely available. He questions whether the collection of fees for these texts could be considered a form of simony.
