Report: Nigerian Christian girls kidnapped, forced to convert to Islam

Catholic World News - July 24, 2013

An official of a Nigerian Christian organization alleges that five Christian girls have been kidnapped in the northern part of the nation, which is largely Muslim, and forced to convert to Islam.

Daniel Babayi, secretary of the Northern Christian Association of Nigeria, told Leadership, a national newspaper, that “the situation where Christian girls below the age of 18 are forcefully abducted and made to denounce their faith in the north has gone worse.”

“Right now, there are five cases we are treating; they have been kept in the houses of emirs or imams,” he said. “When we report to the police, they tell you there is nothing they can do. The police have become very helpless. In some instances, they are part of the conspiracy.”
