Vatican newspaper raps 'divisive' French push to legalize same-sex marriage
April 24, 2013
L’Osservatore Romano has criticized French President Francois Hollande for pushing forward with legal recognition of same-sex marriage despite popular protests.
The French government “did not pay attention to the many voices” raised in protest against the legislation, the Vatican newspaper said. As a result, L’Osservatore said, the new law has produced divisions in French society.
Homosexual activists in Italy, on the other hand, applauded the French legislation and said that they would promote a similar move in Italy.
