Bolivia approves new constitution criticized by bishops

Bolivians in a referendum yesterday approved a new constitution that makes the nation a secular state, recognizes “reproductive rights,” and prohibits “all forms of discrimination based on ... sexual orientation [and] gender identity.” Acknowledging the document had positive aspects, the bishops had criticized these provisions, as well as a provision that declares critics of national unity guilty of treason.
