Contraceptive mandate goes into full effect August 1, Sebelius says
April 09, 2013
With the allotted period for public comments coming to an end, the Secretary of the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has indicated that a mandate requiring contraceptive coverage in health-care programs will go into full effect on August 1.
“As of August 1, 2013, every employee who doesn’t work directly for a church or a diocese will be included in the benefit package,” HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius told an audience at the Harvard School of Public Health. The administration has shown no inclination to compromise on the contraceptive mandate, despite a rash of lawsuits seeking to block implementation of the policy.
