Pope Francis is avid soccer fan
CWN - March 20, 2013
Pope Francis is an avid and very knowledgeable soccer fan, the head of the Pontiff’s favorite team told Vatican Radio.
The Pope is a card-carrying member of the Atletico San Lorenzo club, said director Jose Capria, and often attended games. He has been a season-ticket holder and occasionally enjoyed talking with players about strategy. Pope Francis played both soccer and rugby in his youth, Capria added.
The Argentine club has sent a message of congratulations to the new Pontiff, proclaiming him “the Pope of San Lorenzo.”
