French medical association opens door to euthanasia
CWN - February 15, 2013
The French National Council (FNC) for doctors has given its support to euthanasia in extreme cases.
Euthanasia is currently illegal in France, but the FNC said that existing law does not provide for rare situations when a terminal patient is experiencing “prolonged agony or psychological and/or physical pain.” When a patient has repeatedly requested, the group said, “terminal sedation” could be not only an appropriate medical option but even a “duty to humanity.”
