Malaysian lawmaker calls for burning of Bibles
January 24, 2013
Ibrahim Ali, a member of the Malaysian parliament and head of the Malay supremacy organization Perkasa, has called upon Muslims to burn Bibles that use the word “Allah” to refer to God.
For nearly four centuries, the word “Allah” has been used in Malaysian Christian writings to refer to God.
Ali’s remarks follow a decree by Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah of Selangor, the leader of one of Malaysia’s 13 states, who declared that non-Muslims who use the word “Allah” face the prospect of jail time.
