German cardinal apologizes for hospitals' refusal to treat rape victims
CWN - January 22, 2013
A German cardinal has said that he was “deeply ashamed” to hear that rape victims were denied medical treatment at two Catholic hospitals in Cologne.
Cardinal Joachim Meisner apologized for the hospitals’ actions, and said that the refusal “goes against our Christian mission.” He said that hospital personnel should have cared for the rape victims, while making it clear that they would not dispense abortifacient drugs.
