1 million displaced inside Somalia, charitable agency reports
CWN - January 04, 2013
More than 1 million of Somalia’s people are displaced, according to a Caritas Somalia report.
The Catholic charity estimates that 1 million people are living in refugee camps inside Somalia. Many thousands more have fled the country after years of chaos. However, with the formation of Somalia’s first effective national government in decades, security conditions have improved within the country, enabling more people to stay.
The new government’s authority remains tenuous. Warlords continue to vie for power in camps surrounding Mogadishu, the nation’s capital, and militant Islamic forces still control in south-central Somalia.
