Over Church objections, family-planning bill advances in Filipino legislature

The lower house of the Filipino legislature has approved a sweeping new family-planning bill, over the energetic opposition of the Catholic bishops’ conference.
The Reproductive Health bill, which will allow for widespread distribution of contraceptives and sex-education in the schools, now goes to the Senate for a final vote.
