700 Italian doctors join in petition to save life of comatose woman

A petition drive launched by pro-life Italian physicians has drawn over 700 doctors to join in a petition to spare the life of Eluana Englaro, a comatose woman at the center of a "right to die" case. In November the top Italian appeals court ruled that doctors should remove the woman's feeding tubes. The 700 doctors testify that taking that step would cause her death by starvation and dehydration, contrary to "basic rules of good medical practice as established in the declaration of Helsinki.”
