Catholic pressure stalls passage of 'reproductive-health' bill in Philippines
Catholic World News - November 27, 2012
Staunch opposition from the Catholic hierarchy, and steady pressure from the laity, has stalled the progress of sweeping new “reproductive health” legislation in the Philippines.
The bill calls for massive distribution of contraceptives and sex-education in the country’s schools. Although the measure has strong backing from President Benigno Aquino III, lawmakers have repeatedly delayed debate on the legislation, evidently fearful of a negative reaction from Catholic voters.
